Common Cent$ got up the other day to take over the garage wall on Spaulding north of Melrose. This wall is usually a huge canvas that draws the best from the biggest contenders, and is always covered from top to bottom. It even recently drew in New York based artists Ski, Col and 2ESAE to have their go at it (check out there mural on the spot here.). But, not even a week after the NYC crew had visited, the wall was covered again by a paste advertising a show for the artist Kai Aspire. Although Kai’s show was quite impressive to see in person, the choice of ad and spot were nothing but upsetting after the whole neighborhood had gotten to watch some out-of-towners brighten the block, despite Kai having covered the wall previously.
Surprisingly, the ad stayed on the wall for about a month, and was even untouched until a few tags popped up last week. However, as we’re sure the tension was building up in any (and every in LA) artist that knew the wall and wanted to claim it, someone had to step in and declare ownership in a big way. And, as the heavens would have it, it was to be a collab between Kai and Common Cent$.
For the mural we were informed Common spent over 7 hours pasting individual pages from comic books across the entirety of the wall. Once the surface was coated in a comic cosmo, the artist quickly popped up his huge paste of the giant seductive girl, who, in print fashion, had pointillistic shading aspects. A few days later, Kai added his piece, completing the wall
